Default Continental or VRedesteins?

Hi, have been watching this thread for years, infact I think it's the third set of tyres I've been looking for and perusing these pages. Thanks for all the input.

Now, I have a set of 4 nearly worn out VRedestein Wintrac 4 Extremes which have lasted pretty well both winter and summer and was considering fitting their replacement called the Extreme S.

Now if I become less bothered with winter traction I see the Pirelli Verdes are getting good write ups here, but I was also looking at the Contisport 5 which have good magazine reviews (and are fab on my golf GTI) but like it says 40 or so pages back Contis used to wear quickly.

Question is, has anyone run the Extreme S or ContiSport Contact 5 and have any thoughts on noise or wear?

Rgds

What's the general feeling on mismatched tyres? I've one almost brand new tyre and the other three have stripped the inside 5 cm - I guess the dealer changed the tyres but didn't sort the tracking. Any way I've a service coming up so will be getting tracking and suspension etc checked, but is it a big deal to have one odd tyre?

Thumbs up

Hi

I've had my XC90 for coming up 3 years now and had the same problems you have when I picked it up so decided to bite the bullet and splash out and reboot all 4 corners at once ...

....I thought being a 4x4 that it would be expensive but was surprised to find on pricing it up that it was cheaper than reshoding my previous car a much loved 04 V70 AND with ALL season XL (extra load tyres with reinforced walls that definitely help smooth out bounce and roll) in the deal.

I went to www.camskill.co.uk and got a fantastic deal on 4 x Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season tyres with XL walls.

They were delivered to a fitter of my choice who fitted them for £10.00 per corner and I got a HUNTER 4 wheel alignment done at another place for £42.00 with a report showing a print-out of before and after...This is quite an essential thing to have done and will save you a lot of money in the long run so I advise it.

I expect to replace my tyres within the next few months ...but they have covered in 3 years nearly 32,000 miles now and the wear is very even across all four.... the tread depth on each tyre having been very closely the same wear on each checking. (they are down to just short of 3mm now)

Tyre pressure seems to be a very important point with the XC90's as this thread shows if you read it from early days to now and 39psi seems to be the magic number for longevity.

Last year I was persuaded by my Indi Service Mechanic to try riding on nitrogen instead of air and I have to say the ride seems much smoother (I guess because the nitrogen is inert -that is to say-the pressure neither rises or falls) so consequently when the tyres are hot or cold the pressure stays the same so wear is minimised.....anyway ...it works for me ...i'm converted.

The All season Verdes have been superb handling all conditions I've thrown at them including some green lane-ing and light off-roading in the Scottish highlands....and a new set of them will be going on in a couple of months.

To sum up ....Go for it.....bite the bullet and buy 4 new if you can.... I certainly haven't any regrets in doing so.

Default XC90 tyres - Uniroyal Rain Sport 19"

Just got an 2009 XC90 D5 with - Uniroyal Rain Sport 19" tyres.

Apparenly good so will monitor - we only do 5k per year now so softness & wear may not be an issue :-)

Has anyone got any medium to long term feedback on the Crossclimates in terms of wear and general experience? Are they a good choice for the XC90

Almost by chance I ended up with Yokahama Geolandar SUV tyres on my XC90. I found them to be excellent. They were quiet, comfortable, with good grip and super handling.

Now I have Nokian Zline SUVs. The handling is skittish, they are noisy and uncomfortable. I am going to bite the bullet and go back to Yokahamas.
