My car is a 2012, so I remember what was current at that time.
The later D2 is the 2 litre volvo engine rather than the 1.6 litre Citroen/ford engine

for what its worth we got a customer with a 1.6d auto in an S80 with well over 250k on it, just regular servicing, guy has had it from new, personally I find them a bit underpowered but compared to some cars on the road more than enough.

to me the 1.6 drives a lot nicer in auto over manual, they are surprisingly comfortable considering the size of the car, give it a good test drive first, we've seen some weird issues with the auto boxes.

As far as I know (which isn't far). The 1.6d is a 16 valve engine, the D2 an 8 valve. I'm not sure the V70 came in a 2 litre D2 guise. 🤔

ta for the replies, but i am thinking "auto" box for the next one, and as I have no experience in this field at all, value the in put any one can give.

The wife and I are not wanting to race away from the lights so taking off speed is not important.......why buy a load lugger like this if you want to?

Are Volvo auto's any good?

cheers

It did...had it as a rental in Sweden. Quite nice actually. Incredible on fuel but had no go in it....

Interesting, mine is one of the last 2015 D2 V70's, and it's a 1.6!
