Default Buying advice - rust (pictures attached)

I'm interested in buying a 240. I went to see it today and it seems great mechanically, I just want some advice on the bodywork. I'm not really experienced in dealing with significant rust. I only treated and filled a couple of pretty minor bits on a mk2 golf 17 years ago.

Here's the obvious bits I could see:

Rear of n/s sill:

o/s/r arch:

At this stage how would you recommend proceeding with the rear arches? Should I budget to replace the sills in the next couple of years. There has been a bit of rust patched on the o/s already in response to an MOT advisory as its in the prescribed area.

What about that last shot - how worried should I be about that?

Thanks.

The sills could just have the ends repaired.

The arch is normal

The A pillar is common ish and can be fixed.

I would suggest lifing teh carpets and checking along teh seam from teh floor to teh sills.

I totally agree Unless it's very cheap. But as said buy a better example.

I bet there is more holes/ rust on outriggers and floor pan and behind the rear bumper. Seems far far more holed than my 1989 240.

If your really set on it see if you can get a welding quote before purchase and get it up on a ramp and have a good poke around underneath and also look at the rear suspension top mountings.

Welding properly by cutting it out and welding in new metal isn't cheap.

Totally agree with both last replies. I should have done a detailed examination on one I bought a few years back, but instead banked on honesty from seller (who I'd known for years). At next MoT was quoted over £500 for sill ends and outrigger welding, which was far more than I paid for the car as the paint was a bit scruffy.
Do not learn the hard way like I did - the one I did purchase was less than that with minimal rust and a years MoT and tax, and I still have that car, all legal and in occasional use.

+1 to that. It's already been plated once at the end of the sill shown and what's above it looks like rusty filler. A post rust looks pretty scary too. Check the MOT history if you like but an easy car to walk away from.

Thanks for your input chaps. Appreciated. It's had a "Rear Upper Body has slight corrosion" (6.1.B.2) the last couple of years (last MOT was April 2017) and an "Offside Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive outer sill" (5.2.6) in 2016 which was patched neatly.

Good to have the feedback from you as I'd not been to see any other examples, so didn't have a point of reference.
