Default Anti-skid service required

Good evening folks,

2007 XC90 3.2L, anti-skid light and message is on. We bought this car used with 160k miles. The light first came on when we noticed that the front brakes began grinding and a short stint on a very bumpy road. When I changed the brakes, one wheel was worn down to the metal and the rotor needed to be changed. Changed both front wheel pads and rotors. Brakes are good but now the skid light is always on.

I've tried cleaning the wheel speed sensors, all four wheels, and checked the yaw rate sensor for corrosion. Other than that I'm a bit lost. Anyone have a suggestion?

There is a small cog wheel in the axle which rotates against a sensor teeth to let the ECU know how much speed the car is going when the brake is applied.
This wheel when gets old corroded and crack.
This might show the warning. The part itself is 5£ quid but if the mechanic is not careful when removing the hub the axle will get stuck and leads to expensive repair.
Hope this helps. Cheshire D5 has done a good video in you tube. Google it .

Read the DTCs. That will give you direction.

Took the car in and had the codes read. It seems to be the wheel angle sensor. Does anyone have a cheap place to order parts?

Can't help you with anywhere in Ca.

Suggest you look for an on-line supplier in the US - perhaps via Swedespeed?

Cheers

I had this on my D3 C70 last month, and the car went into limp mode.

By the time I came to look at it, it had cleared itself, but a search on here suggested that a relay or the like in the fuse box in the passenger footwell may have become loose. I checked all the fuses and relays, and yes, while none were obviously loose, I could wiggle a couple of them, so gave them a firm push in place. As a precaution, I did the same with the under bonnet fuse box.

So far so good, no repeat of the problem.

Yep, spoke too soon!!

Yesterday, on start up, the 'Anti skid service required' warning came up again, with car in limp mode.

Drove it a mile back home, left it for ten minutes, and fault cleared itself.

The worst kind of fault! Intermittent, and once cleared, no fault registering on my OBD II reader.

But VIDA will tell you as it logs the history of the faults

Annoyingly, it's done it again today, wait ten minutes and it clears!

Being relatively new to Volvos, anyone tell me where I can find a VIDA near West Herts, please?

I think I will go through the relays in the fusebox though, and 'tweak' the pins a tad, on the assumption that the intermittent fault shows if one has come loose. I may be barking up th wrong tree, but it's worth a try.

Sounds like an abs ring cracked , they show up under high acceleration because the crack opens up a little more , also tends to show up on tight roundabouts when wheel speeds are different .
