Default Fuel flap not unlocking/stuck

When I bought the car in May, the fuel flap was stuck in the unlocked position and would never lock. Garage replaced the solenoid. All seemed fine.

On a few occasions lately, I've had the opposite problem, having reached the pump, tried to open the flap, and found it still locked.

Usually I can lock and unlock the car and the flap will then open. Today I had to repeat this procedure a few times before it opened. It then seemed to work fine through the rest of the day.

Questions...

1. Another dodgy solenoid? Something else?
2. Is it possible to manually force unlock the fuel flap from inside the boot? I'm a bit concerned I could reach the pumps and find it never unlocks; tbh it was less concerning being stuck unlocked. It'd be good to know if there's any way of getting it to release from inside.

I don't have any other lock/unlock/key issues that I'm aware of. The car is programmed in VIDA to lock the fuel flap immediately instead of after 10 mins, and yes, I leave it unlocked when trying to open the flap at the forecourt.

They all do that sir!

Here you go...cheshired5's video is just what you asked for. Mine does the same once in a blue moon.

Ah, thank you.

Funny that mine's doing it though despite only a few months after the solenoid replacement.

Also found this thread detailing how to manually unlock it; will practice that I think to make sure I don't get caught out.

Manually unlocking it is very easy once you have done it for the first time. Replacing the solenoid may not make any difference if the problem is lack of lubrication on the worm drive. Mine dosen't do it often enough to warrant an investigation as of yet.

Had a similar issue on a different, car, took the worm gear motor out and ran it with a 9v battery until it sounded ok, my theory is the either grease gets into the motor, or the brushes get carbon build up and the good run sorts out it. All fine now.

there must only be a small amount of silicone grease - too much and it wont work also the two terminals that power it - one is a press fit - make sure its exactly in the correct spot or again itll be intermittant.

took me a couple tries to fix it but now it's been golden for months.

ps when you take it apart to change grease watch out for a little yellow plastic piece which is easy to lose
