Default BCM-FFFF Code

Hi there folks
I finally decided to get a VIDA/DICE
running the software pulled up a BCM-FFFF code but the VIDA does not have any information about this!
Anyone else had this problem or has any help with the issue.
2006 XC90 D5 AWD has ABS/Anti-skid orange warning light on.

Have you cleared that code and rescanned?

I don't know what it is but it may be old and no longer relevant.

The value comes from the initial state list after clearing all codes as per instructions received with my VIDA/DICE from Cheshired5 Out of interest the other DTC codes are: BCM-0076, BCM-0129, CCM- 0040, REM-4F43, REM-4F4A, REM-4F42, REM-4F44.
Not to worried about air quality and can park without the sensors, but would dearly like to get rid of the ABS/Anti-skid service required.

Given that the value FFFF likely corresponds to all bits high in a data register, it's likely to be a spurious code, transmission errors on the bus or a "magic number", indicating an error condition in the BCM (or another component in the data path).

Since BCM-0076 is "Control module, faulty configuration", then I'd say you need look no further for the culprit. You can and should go through the usual checks of electrical connectivity (pull the module, check the contacts are clean, re-seat, check the wiring loom for obvious signs of damage) but that notwithstanding, the BCM itself is likely at fault.

I would also be looking at the BCM. FFF errors normally indicate errors associated with control modules. The EEPROM chips can be sensitive to voltage drops or spikes, and can become corrupted as a result. The fix is to write the factory information back onto the EEPROM chip using the necessary software and hardware. The likes of BBA remanufacturing can check the module for faults and fix any that are found.

  • BCM-0076
There are a lot of cases around, where the BCM sets this error code, if something along the line isn't working. But it could very well be the BCM itself.
  • BCM-0129
This is imho the right direction.
  • CCM-0040
The AQS, I'd guess every XC90 older then seven years has this one. As long as you don't disconnect or change the sensor to a VW one, you're good to go.
  • REM-4F43, REM-4F4A, REM-4F42, REM-4F44
Seems your parking sensors aren't working anymore... Nothing noteworthy regarding the anti-skid-message.

The two mainly failing components with the anti-skid-message are the BCM itself and the AYC part, namely the YAW sensor (as the accelerometer is built into the YAW sensor). Unfortunately you will not know, which one (or both) are failing. Normally people start by checking the YAW sensor under the amplifier (under the driver seat) for corrosion, especially if you have a car with a sunroof. Check that first, it's a ten minute job, you need a 8mm and a 10mm nut.

If all looks fine, no visible corrosion on the outside and inside the connectors, take a look at the BCM. You'll find it on the right side under the bonnet, behind the fuse box.

Here is a great tutorial about the BCM: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...?p=46827#46827

The YAW sensor is new at your dealer around 700.-EUR/GBP/USD, you can find some used ones on eB** for around 130.- to 270.-.

Both, BCM and YAW sensor can also be repaired, search for volvodiagnostic.co.uk (I think it is) or Xemodex or any other company, that repairs control modules.

I had nearly the same a few years ago, I ended up in buying a used YAW sensor and soldered the BCM myself. Error was gone afterwards, can't say which one it was...

EDIT: As a last resort before buying parts would be to re-calibrate the YAW sensor with VIDA.

I'd start with a visual check on the components, try a re-calibration and then try with a used YAW sensor.

Well look, had a go at the YAW sensor. Not sure about a 10 minute job, but i got it free with the help of a gentle tap with a hammer on the small clip! However I can not remove the connector to check the contacts. There is very little space. Do I heed to remove all the vent ducts and disconnect the amp? Anyone got any idea about the clip that holds the connector in - I don’t want to break it.
There is however no sign of damp in the compartment, so that is a good sign I assume

when you are working on the car with VIDA you must have a 40A 14v power supply unit fitted ( not a battery charger ) to keep the system happy . This has been the case since the year dot ( 1998 ) to the present day professionally ..

It’s me again!
It has been suggested that I re-calibrate the YAW sensor with VIDA.
I am new to VIDA and have looked for how to re-calibrate the YAW sensor without success anyone talk me through the steps needed. Your help would be appreciated

Try Diagnostics >Vehicle Communication >BCM (from the overhead vehicle diagram) >Advanced then follow the on screen instructions
Consider also checking the steering angle sensor Diagnostics >Vehicle Communication >SAS (from the overhead vehicle diagram) >Advanced
