Default Spare wheel question

Hi All

A colleague of mine at work has just bought a 62-plate V40. Within the first week of ownership she's been unlucky enough to have had a rear tyre puncture. The car was ultimately stuck overnight at the office because it has no spare wheel or jack. Home is 30 miles and a miserable train ride away, so to be stuck like that for such a simple issue was a bit frustrating to say the least.

There is of course wheel well and space to store a spare, and I've suggested that she might invest in spare wheel and jack. The car has 205/55/16 wheels/tyres on - alloys of course.

This can't be the first time that anyone's been in the position, so do you have any recommendations as to how to prove a V40 D2 with a sensible spare wheel option without breaking the bank?

Will a full-size spare fit in the well? Are steelies available for this car? Or would a space saver be best?

Thanks in advance

Jack

This would probably be the best option:-

I doubt that you could fit a full size spare in the wheel well as there is only just enough room for the spacesaver spare. Hope this helps.

The one from the Volvo Parts Shop is identical to the one my Volvo dealer offered to supply for £209! It was delivered in 48 hours for about £7.00

It's interesting, if not sneaky that Volvo Parts Shop is the same premises as Coventry's main Volvo dealer TMS.
I also asked the main dealer for a spare wheel price, it was way dearer, when i mentioned Volvo parts shop price, they matched it.
Its the same guys in the same building !
The wheel come with a jack, threaded securing knob, polystyrene housing for the jack.
Not a bad price really.

Always worth asking a main dealer if they offer Volvo Owners Club discount. I just saved 20% off a new battery which brought it down to less than a non-genuine equivalent from Euro Car Parts.

We saw that too. But then if you've just spent several £thousands on a newish car is it really worth saving just £60 by getting a non-Volvo spare wheel and jack? That's not even the cost of one tankful of fuel.

Just supposing you bought that copy-cat kit off Ebay, and then when you go to use it the jack bends under the weight of the car? Or it doesn't have the shaped lug that fits into the corresponding profile of the car's jacking point?

If you'll excuse the immodest pun, I think that you should only ever use a top-quality Jack!

Cheers
