Not sure what all the fuss about handbrake shoe adjusters is though; follow the manual, use quality parts and they're fine left as stock......

I got the adjusters on mine.. pulled them from an old S70. When adjusted properly, these reduce that engagement 'delay' (the car moves a bit before the brakes stops it). I also feel it holds a little bit more on a slope, but the fact is that the main problem are the cables that wear and don't hold as well (and are not fun to replace). But again, even with the adjusters the handbrake can barely slow down the car, when the cables are worn.

A small video, mainly with the hood release handle (sometimes it breaks), I put some links in the video description, from around the net with how to replace the cable, how to release the hood without the cable, etc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaZDLT1QYP8

Also got to explore those 'to depress' points when removing the front seats headrests https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKdSof1UJiI

There is that ‘rock onto stop’ I suppose, but it’s never ever been any issue, it’s never meant to stop the car, only hold it when it is stopped.
(Vauxhall Vectras on the other hand, now they had a horrid tendency to have such a huge self-servo action on the handbrake moving forwards that if you were moving at any speed at all, they’d lock up solid in the forwards direction but still happily roll back unabated once it had reached a standstill. Yet another reason to detest the awful vehicles....)

Well.. Maybe not exactly "today"...

I set off 5:45 yesterday. Tank full.

8:10 Chunnel, boarded, moving.

11.30 , Near Düsseldorf, replaced exploded (!) Osram night breaker.

Now, that's bulb longevity! Whole 18 hours from fitting!

Hanover area- fill up for 50 euros. Just to get me across border, fuel will be much much cheaper there.

19:00-21:00 stuck for 2 hours on motorway near Berlin.

3 wrecks.. One on UK plates, one Polish, one German.

Was that kids jacket hung on the door of one of them?

I hope not..

22:00 Polish border. Finally decent ride. Maybe Germany is famous for " no speed limit", but in practice its "no limit-120kmh-80kmh-no limit".. Repeat every 4 miles or so.
Now this.. Official speed limit is 87mph/140kph, but no one will even raise an eyebrow if you're flying 100/160.. Constantly. For hundreds of miles..

20 miles from border fill up. Tank full.

15 minutes nap near Lodz, its half midnight, been going nearly constantly for over 18 hours now.

And set off.. Warsaw passed , keep east/northeast.

7 am local (6amuk) target reached.

Unload. Stick car in garage. Sleep..

I woke up an hour ago.

1289 miles, or, if one wants, 2074km, covered in 24 hours including stops, naps, sandwiches and wreckages..

A bit slow.. Need to be better next time.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I use Philips H7 for the low beam, off Ebay they are stamped Made in Germany. I've had them for a few years now and I have the daytime running lights. They hold up well.

Also, I keep one for spare inside the car, just in case

Just a small warning with the clogged sunroof drains. At 0:40 and 5:00 in this video I mention the side curtain airbag got wet from this this. It would be important to check these curtain airbags if the sunroof drains got clogged, because with cold weather the wet airbag will freeze up and may get damaged from the ice formation. I know mine was already replaced by Volvo in the past.

So perhaps have a look at 0:40 and 5:00 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlaiU2ysB5E

Well to be honest, I normally use these "cheapo" 100W H7's off eBuerghll.. (Here comes shouting)
With well adjusted headlights! (Shouting subdues, but only slightly..)

These seem to keep extremely well, I change one, two , per year, daylights on.

But on this occasion, thinking about going trough Germany at night, I thought- I'll give these osrams a try.

Light output ain't bad.. But less than 8 hours working life? At this price?
