V50 engine swap
Good morning all,
So I have a v50 2.0 diesel auto with a broken auto box and im struggling to find a replacement and a new mechatronics is gonna cost over €1500. I had an idea to buy a 2.4 auto v 50 or s40 and swap over the engine and box, this will probably cost less then repairing my current transmission as I reckon ill buy a complete 2.4 litre car here for less than €1000 . Now my question is does anyone know if the engine bay wiring loom from the 2.4 will plug into my existing car and what components will I need to swap to allow the new engine trans and ecu to function. Thanks |

Im aware that ecu will need to be changed, along with other parts , my only concern is will the ecu from the doner car plug into the extisting cars main wiring loom.
I cannot find a powershift trans anywhere, mine needs a mechatronics theres a few solenoids faulty and I cannot buy these new. I reckon if I find a 2.4 at the right money I will get my car on the road again for a lot less then buying a new mechatronics |

I see where your coming from there,
Ford powershift transmissions wont work on a volvo, ive beeh told their is some coding differences. The powershift transmission is not very reliable and hard to come by, volvo ones are even more so. |

Anything is technically possible.... but at what cost and risk? Putting men on the moon might be easier - that's been done before :-)
Apart from the engine, there's the ECU, the CEM to deal with. You'll probably need to replace the wiring loom and the DIM, the fuel tank and pump, exhaust, adapt the brakes to work from a manifold vacuum system not pumped, a fuel return line, possible cooling system pipes and radiator change, A/C system re-configuration, exhaust system etc. Is the TPS the same? 5-cylinder engine will be heavier, change front springs and dampers? That's just what I can think off from the top of my head, there will be more, much more... Easier and simpler just to buy the car, no insurance issues, enjoy it from day 1.
