Default Spotify 3G/4G issues

Hi all,

Just wanted to pick the collective brain

I think my 2017MY XC90 R-Design has only 3G connectivity, I assume this as my area has been switched off according to EE, the internet is next to dead but still sort of works, Spotify just buffers all the time but plays 20 seconds now and then,
This is where it gets complicated, I bought a cheapo 4G/LTE modem / mifi hotspot usb device, this works fantastic, super fast passengers can use it the car connects to it, it downloaded the latest map update in no time at all, but Spotify flatly refuses to connect when the car is on wifi, now if I then change the settings back to incar modem, then plug the usb in the other usb socket, sequence is irrelevant, the car says it’s connected to the internet via USB and Spotify works again, and super fast

Then once the car is turned off left for 10 mins then restarted, the USB connection has gone, it’s back on wifi and nothing works again,

I have not discovered how to maintain the USB connection or get Spotify working over WiFi, strangely it all works over my iPhone wifi hotspot?

Try NOT powering the hotspot via USB, use 12v socket instead.

It may be that the USB connection and WiFi Connection are confusing things.

If nothing else, it eliminates a potential cause.

It's actually news to me that you can even establish connectivity via USB anyway!

Hi thanks for the reply,

I will try powering it from the rear 12v socket and see how I get on, I just can’t justify the dealer 4G upgrade at £1650.00, not after just getting charged £1168.00 for a new starter motor!

Really not happy taking the car to dealers anymore as it’s now out of warranty
