Default Best petrol spillage remedys

Right, i was carrying my rotovator in the boot the other day, unbeknown to me it sprung a leak and ****ed petrol all over the carpet and into the spare wheel hole, ive cleaned up the loose petrol but cant seem to shift the smell from the upholstery. Ive toyed with the idea of taking them out and giving them a good wash and dry indoors with fairy or something but am unsure. any help?

I wouldn't use fairy. High salt content may do more harm than good. How about getting a wet vac and cleaning them that way.

Regular carpet shampoo and a good jet wash. Do not dry it indoors because of the fumes.
