Default Volvo S40 1.8 SE Starting issue!

Hello all

I am new to this site and i was wondering on a bit of guidence, a few days ago i bought a s40 1.8 se took it for a test drive without any problems, i collected it on sunday drove it around for a bit without any issues aswell and parked it up on a side street near to my house due to the bad weather playing havoc accessing my street, although the fuel light came on! :/

I went to work as per usual in my company van yesterday morning, and when i came home last night due to the snow and ice i could not park outside my house again, i parked it next to my car, and started it without any issues.

Now tonight, after i came home i managed to get my van next to my house, and i thought great i can now move my car finally and park it on my drive BUT i can not start it all i get is a ticking noise (not the seatbelt!), a few lights come on the dashboard as you shall see in the 1st picture

The 2 lights in the corner of the dash go off after a few seconds and then i have these lights showing

I know i need fuel (which i hope isn't the culprit for it not starting!) but saying the battery light is staying on,has the weather got the better of the car and somehow made the battery go low? And if so is connecting some jump leads the key to getting it started or is getting some fuel in it the key?

Any help would be muchly appreicated!

Flat battery mate, if the battery hasn't got enough juice in it the starter just ticks. Jumpleads or battery charger should sort it.

If its the battery you may get a whirring noise of a sluggish starter motor and the lights may dim.

My S40 failed to start last Friday morning on a short stop on my way to work. I had already driven 15 miles. Came to start it and nothing. The RAC bump started me and I got to work.RAC diagonised a faulty starter motor. A moble mechanic says that the starter motor is ok. I have no power after the ignition.

Managed to bump start it again and have driven to an Auto electrician to diagonse.

With this fault , there is now clicking or wherring or dimming of lights at all. A mate thinks that in the cold weather the connectors might have become loose or its a broken wire ( car is 13 years old).

Hope you get your new volvo working - I've had mine 13 years and travelled 196K only failed me 3 times!!
