Default starting problem

Any views. My car started last Friday morning. I drove 15 miles and stopped for 5 mins on my way to work. The car didn't start on the key - nothing, no noise at all. RAC bump started me and I got to work another 10 miles.

RAC diagnoised as a starter motor problem.

Mobile mechanic says that there was no power on the starter side of the ignition.

Car currently with my favoured auto electrician in Welwyn Garden City.

A mate thinks it might be a connection that's come loose with the cold weather/ bumpy roads OR that a wire has broken ( car is 13 years old).

(The battery is a Varta - 4 years old is still within 4 year warrenty and regularly conditoned by me with a Ring battery conditioner).

Any ideas or similar expericences from the forum?
