Default Back with another fault, Headlamp Failure Message DTC 6503

Afternoon all,

I'm back again with another fault. As in the title I'm getting a HeadlamlFailure message, had the codes read it comes back as 6503. I've tried to clear this but no luck it's as if it won't clear at all, not clearing then coming back.

My S40 is a 2010 with the Active Xenon headlights. I've tried swapping the bulbs over, swapped the ballasts even swapped the complete headlight over, always comes back with the same code 6503 right headlamp faulty signal.

Doing some research I've learned there are some sensors on the front and rear axles, for the headlights, someone mentioned there maybe a fault with the abs sensor as it takes a speed reading to determine how much to "bend" the lights is that correct.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance

Doing some digging I'm trying to trace the wires from the headlight back, I'm getting continuity on all wires barring 2, orange with green line and the black and white wire. All other I've traced back to the CEM, does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 2010 S40 active xenon Headlight system? Or would anyone know where the two wires go.

I do have two corresponding wires (orange with green line and black and white), at the CEM plug with the others but there's no continuity. Any help would really be appreciated.

Orange/green is the power connection for the headlamp bulbs and should go to the CEM pin E:11 and fuse F58, White/Black is the control signal for the leveling motor and goes to the Headlamp control Module pin C:3

Hi Dave, thanks for your message, much appreciated. If my understanding is correct the orange green wire goes through a relay so if the switch is open I won't see continuity at the ecm. The black and white wire I was checking in completely the wrong place. Looks like I wont have to strip the loom out tomorrow with any luck. I'll get back with an update when I have a look tomorrow.

Thanks again you could be a life saver
