Default C30 d5 egr

Hi all I’ve got a c30 d5 57 plate with 129000 on it my wife was driving it on Friday and it came up engine system service required so something has gone wrong then it literally lost all power as in it runs rough but will not move under acceleration.

The garage has plugged into it today and says it needs a new egr valve but I had one go on my xc90 d5 and that still drove with it gone but this doesn’t move, is it possible the egr has gone that bad it can cause this or is this a symptom of something else as the valve is £400 plus fitting.

I don’t mind as long as it sorts it but seeing if anyone has had the same thanks a lot

Daniel

Are you able to take the valve off yourself, it's a bit fiddly but is a DIY job. If it's bunked up then half an hour with some solvent and a toothbrush should have things sorted.
If it turns out to need more than a clean at least you know for sure. Some companies refurbish these for a lot less than buying new. I've used ECU testing before and have been happy with the service.

Thanks for the reply unfortunately it is sat at the garage and I’m away with work until Friday so can’t do it I’ve told them to replace it and if it is all sorted great, but if it doesn’t and it’s something else they will take it back off and put mine back on at there expense not mine and they have agreed it so time will tell,
Will let you know when it’s sorted.

Probably also worth asking them to remove and clean the associated pipework whilst they are at it, you would hope they would anyway...... but best to make sure.

Haven’t got the final bill yet as I know the garage and don’t normally pay until a few days later but will let you know soon as I have but I know the egr valve was £409 from Volvo which was cheaper than an aftermarket one.
