Well, they claim 90% more light and by god it looks like that!!

I've got twin headlight on T4 which is better than single setup but by god do these things make a difference!! Thoroughly recommended and at present, pack of 2 from AP Motorstore, £12.95 and delivered next day. I think mainbeam may be getting changed as well.....

Yep, they are very very good bulbs, but apparently on our cars due to the DRLs they don't last as long as they would do on a Non Volvo, still really good for the price and you won't have MOT issues as they are still halogen bulbs in halogen rated headlights rather than the illegal HIDs in the halogen headlights.

I fitted them to my P2 1.9D and there was only a slight improvement in dipped beam. They both blew after 6 months roughly and it is well known that none of the high output bulbs last as long as the originals.
Using the fog lights helps more in dipped beam terms.

Well if they blew within 6 months, then I'd be asking for money back. Had the car nearly 2 years and not blown a headlight bulb yet. As for the "high output", how do you arrive at that statement? They are same rating as std fitment....

Oh and using your foglights to improve dipped beam is illegal here.

i have used osram knight breaker plus in the past in my ph1 s40 and they did last at least a year if i remember correctly. I now use philips bulbs which seem to be alot brighter than than the osram ones. I realise i use H4 bulbs whereas yours are H7 i believe so that might make a difference.

I did a post a while back comparing the phillips bulbs to the standard ones.

Nightbreaker plus are the mutts nuts, I've had them in my ph1 S80 for 6 months and the amount of light they put out is very good. The original nightbreakers were good but did not last too long. I noticed a bit further up that fitting HID conversion is ilegal? Since when? My understanding is that provided the headlamps have adjustable beam length and washers then you can quite legally retro-fit them....maybe somebody could clarify? I can't find anything to the contrary on VOSA!

HIDs in Halogen rated headlight units = illegal
HIDs in HID rated headlight units = legal

The actual units have to be rated for HIDs for them to be legal, the V40 did have HIDs as an option so it is possible to have HIDs on our cars, MOT requirements changed as of the beginning of this year.

Indeed:

http://assets.dft.gov.uk/publication...-headlamps.pdf

Here is the main bit:

"Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal.

In summary: it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above."
