Default XC-90 New Tyres

Hi all

Read all the replies and hoping you can help

Front tyres worn from outside in so need replacing, Contis by the way best quote 348.00 for two.Back two still good.
Not impressed by Contis due to wear from outside in ,quoted by local tyre dealer 348 National 390 Kwik fit said they would match 348 after quoting 380.

So wondering if I can mix tyre makes. The Nokians seem to get good reviews here and 300 for 4 would be brilliant in the future.

But can I get 2 and mix till the rear tyres go.
Also would love advice on which Nokian tyre to use or if better other makes, car is used for school run and holidays to France.

Thanks in advance

I have got Marshall tyres on mine, got them from Tyre Exchange for £100 a piece. Been on just over a year and wearing fine. To be honest the outside of my front nearside tyre wears and has always done even though it has been checked on numerous occasions and parts replaced.
I have had new contis on not long after I bought it and would not go back, they wore down in around 18 months.

Regards

I have Hankook DynaPro HP (A23) on the front of mine. Have done about 23k miles and only about 50-60% worn. Pretty good for £140/tyre. The original Contis are too expensive and don't seem to give anyone decent mileage wear.

I assume you've read the Sticky tyre thread at the top of the page?

If not, the wear seems to be caused, on most occasions, when tyre pressures are too low and/or the wheels need aligning.

Most members run their tyres at around 38 psi. www.alignmycar.co.uk should point you in the right direction to getting a 4 wheel digital alignment check.

Default xc90 tyres

bought my xc90 active premium geartronic in 2009 from new and just replaced my front michelin diamaris tyres as the tread had reached minimum but inner shoulders were bald !. apparently according to the tyre garage who relaced them this was due to a misaligned toe out problem which has been rectified,[£50 ouch!] replaced my diamaris with 34k on them with general grabber uhp's from black circles, good value and impressive tread pattern and surprisingly quiet, they are very stable under braking and cornering in the wet and dry giving confidence. I did quite a bit of research before buying and so far happy that i did, only time will tell as i will have to wait and see how they wear.

Pretty much every car I've owned that has "substantial" tyres on it (think BMW/Mercs etc) have worn the tyres from the inside edge. It's the power steering that does it apparently, even with "perfect" alignment.

I don't have Contis on my factory supplied car, but can confirm that the Pirelli Scorpian Zeros fitted are satisfactory on my 20" rims. I'll put Continentals on when the time comes, my experiance is that they offer far superior handing in the wet than other makes I've personally tried.

Have a look at the web only tyre firms; I've always found www.event-tyres.co.uk offer an excellent service at competitive prices.

stick with michelin diamaris -have them on the front previously only used michelins but got fed up with rapid wear rate(granted they were very good in wet and dry)-so far michelins wearing very well and contis at back need replacing looking at over £200 per tyre!(michelin diamaris)

just a thought on this,i am sure i read on the disco/3 forum that 4wd,s need to have all 4 changed together if there is a couple of mm difference in the treads as the gearbox can wind its self up du to different axles moving at a different rate.
cheers
sandy.
