Hi,

I only just got back in the volvo scene. This obd reader plugs into my UK spec 940 turbo? It's chipped if that matters. What softeware do I need to read the codes?

Cheers

I'd like to add my name to the waiting list for an OBD reader please - my Volvo's 2.3 LPT turbo has developed a cold start problem recently

It will read the flash codes for Ignition, Fuel System, ABS and, if fitted Cruise Control - the series of LED flashes that you can then cross-refer to the Diagnostics FAQs. The 940s are not, unfortunately OBD-compliant even though they have the OBD socket under the centre console.
Unless the chip has overridden/overwritten the factory engine management there shouldn't be a problem.

Just for interest - my 1991 945 has an OBD1 reader under the bonnet. Can be read easily to provide the codes for diagnosis. No extra equipment required. It is a little black box on the LHS suspension turret area,

Ian I get confuddled by all these OBD stuff that those informed people talk about. It might be star wars. It is not Who 'cos The Doctor never talks like that. Not even after the recent Trans Woman Mogrification. IT's ALL ABOUT TIME.

Anyways re that box yes that is what thee and me and many many other LH 2.4 owner drivers have built in. I really should actually read that Green Book bedtime reading pdf.

What Loki is providing is not for thee and me. Although. I am very tempted to ask to buy one, in case I ever move on to a car that needs one.

In 1995 Volvo replaced the OBD1 test box in the engine bay with an OBD2 port under the centre arm rest, but kept the same fault reading protocols.
Fortunately for us they didn't implement the OBD2 protocols as they had stopped selling the 940 in North America, where EOBD/OBD2 wasn't required until 1996, and OBD2 wasn't required in Europe until 2001.
They had obviously decided to retire the model before a new engine management system would have been needed.

Hello Loki, I am interested in one of your code readers, I have a 1998 940 with the SRS light on so I need to find the fault and reset the SRS, will your code reader do this?
