Default Slow leak on p1800 cloverleaf

Straight to the point:

I have a slow leak on one of my p1800 cloverleaf rims.

Any suggestions?

Evening , I take it they are alloy rims . If so removing the tyres & valves and wire brushing the bead faces as well as the valve seating removes any "salty " deposits causing leaks . Ask the tyre fitter to use bead sealer on the beads as well as the valve seat , explaining about the air loss .

You can also have a similar problem with rust on steel rims & pretty much the same solution applies to steel rims .

Hope this helps you

These cloverleaf rims on 1800E models are a composite wheel, a steel rim with an alloy centre and are notorious for corrosion where the two sections are joined together.

I would have the tyre removed and very carefully inspect the integrity of the wheel as a failure whereby the two parts separate would be catastrophic if travelling at speed. Your slow leak may be an indication that air is escaping at a rivet point.

If all seems well, perhaps a refurbishment is worth doing and consider the fitting of inner tubes?

I'm on tubes, I just don't really trust the wheels (mine aren't in great condition).

If you don't trust them, follow your feelings and fit something else.1800's with rear discs have lots of choice, spoilt for choice some might say, if you want to stick with Volvo wheels, as any 240/700/900 wheels up to the very last V90/S90 will fit. Those S90 and V90 wheels are dimensioned as for the FWD models. 14" wheels for these models are usually too small to clear the 1800's front callipers being as they are on a 15" wheel. Good Volvo wheels will also usually be cheaper than aftermarket.

What do these wheels look like?

(The term cloverleaf is imprinted in my brain as an Alfa Romeo thing)

Ahh I thought it might be those - I did a google image search but failed to see them called that...

...they remind me more of a symbol you might have seen on a WW1 biplane than a cloverleaf - but hey - whatever!

I mean they are OK I think with the tubes in, externally they are fine but look inside the rim and you can see a bit of corrosion at the seam. Need to get around to getting them done...
