XC90 D5 2016 Squeaking after alternator replaced
Hi Everyone
First time on the forum so apologies if Ive got this wrong somehow. Looking for advice, I have a 2016 (65reg) XC90 D5, The alternator failed and was replaced with a brand new genuine Volvo part by Volvo however since replacement the car has an annoying squeak presumably coming from the belt. I have read things about belts snapping and in turn also causing the timing belt to snap? So my question really is should I be worried, Is there anything I can check myself, The noise does seem to be worse on initial start up for 30 seconds or so but does occasionally squeak under high load say putting my foot down to overtake a tractor uphill as an example. Car is faultless other than the noise and has been for the last 35k miles, It has now done 105k, I had Timing belt and full service done at 90k. Thanks in advance. |

Personally I would take it back to Volvo ASAP, and would go so far as to not be driving it in the meantime. But I do suffer from auxilliary/cambelt failure paranoia !

Take it back to the dealer!
You could have a look to see if the belt is running in the grooves correctly, may be a groove out on one pulley. When mine does this its usually the anti rotation pulley that has seized, ask if the pulley is a new one or did they transfer the pulley from the old alternator? John |
