Remember the 760 which Clarkson drove through a wall in one episode of Top Gear?

I suppose that's the price we have to pay for the crumple-zone protection systems these days. It is nice to feel you are inside one of the safest cars on the road.

The downside is that it's almost impossible to repair a modern car. No wonder insurance premiums are so high.
Yes but modern Volvo's are not like the old ones Many years ago a friend dropped us off at the airport in my newish 1989 740. On the way there I commented that it didn't like mounting kerbs in reverse and that to do so required a fair amount of throttle. On the way home he got lost and was forced to make a 3 point turn that required mounting a kerb in reverse. Meeting resistance he gave it 'welly' only to knock down someones garden wall. Nett result, a large insurance claim for a brick wall wall and a almost invisible scratch into the plastic coating of the steel girder- sorry, shock absorber mounted rear bumper. The car carried that scare for the next 16 years
