My Volvo XC90 d5 06 is making a whirring/ cog sound on and off acceleration. It also has a loss of power and engine service light on dashboard.

Does anyone know what could be the fault with it?

Hi, it is not that the forum is ignoring you but you have given us too little information, basically saying my car is broken and what can be wrong.

You need to get the codes read by someone with an odb reader at least, but better by Vida (volvo diagnostics). The codes are read by a device that attaches to your odb socket in the car ( under the footbrak release handle.

Given this info I am sure the forum can give excellent and accurate help.

These cars are very good at identifying where the error lies and you need to read the codes or take it to an independent volvo dealer or some kind local member may help you with this.

A good idea is to invest in cheap code reader that will at least identify the management code which is in itself helpful to the forum to advise you further.

Hope this helps

My 06 XC90 d5 is doing the same thing as Cody’s. I have a code reader and will hook it tomorrow and see if I can get a code to go off of. Any help after I can get the codes would be greatly appreciated.
