Hi Paul.

Still new to this so don't know how to e-mail Driver.

Just to let ppl know to turn OFF the Emissions light (providing it's not a propper fault) Disconect the batt for 1/2 hr then re-connect and it should be out.

Have to reset the clock and radio thats all.

Joe.

Default Very New S80 member (tonight, Wwednesday)

I have a Jan 2000 S80 SE which I have put in for a 100k service with a local former Volvo mechanic owned garage. I have had to have the cam replaced (recommended at 108k miles) as part of the usual service. In addition I damageed my reverse gear fate/pulleys when someone had a blowout in front of me just as I was changing from 5th to 4th (or in this case slammed the reverse gate). The car was working fine in all other respects. The garage could not fully finish the job by Saturday so they kept it over the weekend. On Monday they phoned to say that they had some problems - apparently the battery had gone flat (never had any problems previously) and there were now NP systems working on the dash (petrol gauge, milegage, speedo etc). They sent it to specialist auto elec who traced the problem to what I believe is failed servo of some sort. This is the info they have given me, together with a (additional) price tage of c£900to pay. I have challenged the garage to say that these were all in full working order when I left it on Friday morning and I now have to try and find around £1,600. (no price given to me for the spark). Volvo dealer says "this is not an uncommon problem". I cannot believe that an S80 cannot survive without a battery for a short while. I cannot even drive away since it would be on the road illegally. Have I just been unlucky?? Can I get a used servo (if it is that)?

I think you may have posted in the wrong section like myself. I would suggest you post in the S80 Section if you can find it,

Default S80 Haynes Manual

Small correction to ISBN. It is 1844252639 - not 693 as stated - (9781844252633 is the new ISBN13 number). And it does not cover the 2.5 diesel (sadly).

Stumbled across this forum by accident, but im very glad i did. First off all let say sorry straight off as i dont know if im on the right section for this, but i saw the last post and i is one off the questions i wanted to know the answer to as my light came on last night.
Also the main question i would desperately like an answer to is this,
If i have less than 1/4 tank of fuel and i park up over night 9 times outof 10 it wont start in the morning. I then can go and get a couple of litres of fuel (unleaded) put it in and away she goes. this only happens if i leave it over night. I can travel all the way down to an empty tank but if i leave it overnight as i say it wont start. Ive had it into 2 garages and both say nothing wrong with it. But try telling me that when ive got to get a taxi to fill my petrol can on a cold mornin when im running late for work

Late reply and a first post from myself.....

My S80 2.4 SE suffers the same non-starting problem, although with less fuel indicated in the tank.

Having spoken to a number of specialists and an RAC mechanic, it appears to be a common 'feature' of the car and all recommend keeping fuel levels sufficiently high to prevent it.

I am very wary of the indication given by the fuel gauge, it is certainly not linear (a steady movement towards empty as fuel is used) and slows dramtically at the top and bottom of the gauge. As an ex-technician, I know that cheap instruments can suffer from this but you'd think that a company like Vovlo would put something of better quality in their car?
