Thanks for the info. Have there been any further revisions to the EGR itself or the cooler since my car was last fixed in Jan 2017?

If further EGR work is required do I need to ask the dealer to approach Volvo UK about covering costs or will I need to contact Volvo myself?

The dealer is responsible for covering any work covered by any EGR policy on your car , It is up to them to get the best outcome for you , it is in their interest as they make money from the job ,most EGR problems are covered for 4 years and still being extended . yes there has been a physically modified EGR cooler since your last EGR problem and various ECU software .

Spaceman,

I would reckon you won't have any issues with getting the work done, due to the fact you have a Full Volvo Service History. The reason I had the issue was that my car had one service carried out outside the dealer network, and the dealer carried out the repair on my car did not bother to ask about the service schedule on the car, hence the reason why I had to get head office involved in my case.

My car will be due it's next service at the start of February 2019, however, I will be going to Taggart's Volvo in Glasgow, rather than Lloyd Volvo in Carlisle due to the apathy they showed during the whole EGR Cooler issue.

I did say before that servicing is not considered for eligibility for this repair . It seems the dealer incorrectly thought it was goodwill in which case it would be of course .

Very disappointing as I want to keep the car and only do about 10,000 miles per year. I extended the warranty through year 4, but not into year 5 this year as I assumed (incorrectly) that the EGR issue had been finally fixed.

Booked in next week with my local dealer's service department. The car has a full Volvo service history with them (5 year service due in a couple of months).
Car repaired yesterday, needed replacement of emap pipe which was clogged. Apparently not related to previous EGR problem so work was chargeable although not expensive.

so far I've been very happy with Taggarts Glasgow so you should be ok with them.

Took car back a couple of days ago and the guy doing the remap missed some software in the ecu that should have been deleted. Car is now clear of p04d9 code at last. It cost me £200 all in for remap and egr delete but I am very happy with the end result.

Good news! But you shouldn't have had to take this action.

The increased NOx emissions are a bad thing, however I'm wondering how many other VEA owners might have to take a similar action over the next few years?

Did the remap give a lot more power? It would be useful if you could post a link please?

Default Christmas Present from our XC60.

The check engine light came on just before Christmas on my 2016.5 xc60 d4. Have been waiting for it to happen since we purchased it in October 2018 from a Volvo dealer over 100 miles away from us. Local Volvo service centre were great, booked in for the 27th with all parts pre ordered as they had a good idea it was the egr valve and cooler. Was given a V40 to use for the day and got a call at 2.30pm to say all done. The bill to Volvo shows EGR valve, egr cooler and new pipework installed. Hope that is the last we see of this problem.

i have had my 2014 xc60 2.4 d4 approx 60.000 miles now, touch wood no problems with it,but reading between the lines will my valve etc mess up on me ?
the car was purchased from a Honda dealer, but was serviced, belts etc,and has the previous owners Volvo history with it.
