I have the same problem, Volvo main dealer told me to just keep my eye on it. Apparently to fix the issue you need to take the top cover off the engine to replace a gasket. The gasket itself only costs about £12 but to get to the gasget you need to remove the injectors and theres plently of labour involved in doing that.
Volvo main dealer quoted me £820 Local Indi Volvo Specialist quoted me £320 (Al's Autos in Wimbourne, Dorset) At some point this year I'll probably get my Indi to do the work as my swirl arm rod has been replaced twice in about 12 months due to it coming apart (costs about £5 for a genuine OEm swirl arm and easy to fit). My Indi has now heated mine up to get it to seat properly and reduce the likelihood of it coming off again. While they take the injectors out I'll get them to send them off to a specialist to be tested / cleaned etc. .

Wondering if you sorted the problem by replacing the gasket?

Still not got around to doing mine yet as it's not causing me any issues for the time being. There's only a very tiny amount of oil and swirl flap has stayed on so not worth the expense yet.

So I presume you're topping up engine oil every so often?

Hi, mine does it too, it's a 2007 xc90 D5, there is oil leaking at the same area as the picture in this thread.
i have changed the valve cover gasket, the swirl seemed ok, no play, stable arm and motor, changed the PCV valve, oil pump seals and oring, injector orings. After a couple of days the leak is back. The mechanic suggests to replace the valve cover gasket again and maybe the plastic valve cover itself, but there is nothing wrong with that, no cracks. Could it be the valve cover gasket or the swirl has a seal that is failing and can be replaced ? Thanks! |
