2005 S60 - Any Dog owners?
Hi there,
Odd request, I tried searching the forum to avoid double posting but couldn't find any similar threads so I thought I would just ask. I have a Volvo S60 2005 model and I am looking to run it for a few more months/a year if possible but I am also likely to be getting a medium sized dog (Labrador) in the coming months and I wondered if anyone has any experience of having a dog in an saloon? I have only ever had dogs in estates before. I rarely have rear seat passengers so was thinking about getting a cover that goes across the seats and creates a 'U' area for the dog but would appreciate any comments/tips from dog owners! Thanks, Gordon |

You can get a harness for the dog that fastens to one of the seatbelts. The idea is to prevent the dog getting launched into a passenger should you be in an accident.
We transported a smaller dog (collie x) this way in an s60 before kids arrived and had to swap to a v70 as couldn’t fit the pram in the s60 boot. |

When I take my dog out in the car[I have an Omega saloon as well as the V70]she always rides on the rear seat-even in the V70-as said above she has a harness which fastens round her and goes up between her front legs this harness has a loop on it through which one of the seat belts passes before being fastened in the normal way.Having leather seats means dog hairs are not the problem they can be with fabric seats,an old blanket suffices to shield her from hot seats in summer.

Definitely get a seat cover for the rear (I wouldn't go with the U one tho') or brer dog will destroy it!

By the way the harness I bought for mine I got from my local Tesco[other supermarkets are available]there was iirc 3 sizes for small, medium or large dog breeds so you buy the one to suit a typical breed size and then the harness has adjustable straps to make it safe and comfortable for your own dog.

As I understand it, the law now states that it is a legal requirement to have the dog restrained whilst driving. As mentioned earlier, it is to stop the poor thing getting launched in the event of an accident. If you do not have the convenience of being able to keep the dog behind a dog guard as in an estate car then definitely get the dog a harness and secure to the seat belt.
