Default 2006 V50 D5 DPF or not?

I've been offered a 2006 V50 fitted with the D5 engine and autobox - I already have a XC70 of the same era with the D5 engine and know this is fitted with the quality 'dry' type DPF that doesn't need additive and eventual replacement.

I'm aware from searching the forum that the V50/S40's may or may not have a DPF depending on the 8th character in the VIN (4 denoting no DPF fitted) but from what I can find these all seem to relate to the 2.0 diesel engines.

My question is does the 8th VIN character also refer to the D5 engined models of the V50 and S40 as to whether a DPF is fitted or not?

The vehicle I've been offered has number '4' as the 8th character in the VIN.

Thanks

Its a 2006 D5, so it’ll have a euro 4 engine = DPF (doesn’t require additive).

That doesn’t mean you won’t have DPF issues though! The car needs to be driven at least once a month on a motorway journey for 20 minutes or so. Just tootling around town will be no good for the DPF.

Generally, the DPF’s are reliable.
