Default Fuel Leak - Tank.

I have smelt petrol the last couple of days. I looked under the car tonight, and could see where petrol had been leaking from the top rear of the tank. I wonder if any one has had any similar experience of this kind and could point me to what it may be.I am not sure whether it will be the level sender or pump unit.
any advice would be appreciated before I attack it with my toolbag.
Thanks in anticipation.

Could be the filler hose, seem to remember there's a problem with some of them.

As Chris said, get under the drivers side of the car in the centre where the fuel filter is. Place you hand around the two connection hoses and feel if any of them are wet due to leakage or incorrect fitting. Next back from there is a pressure release value that looks like a tyre cap check this.

Jack the car up so you can then investigate underneath the fuel filler pipes. The fuel sender and pump are actually in the tank so the smell of fuel would be quite strong i would of thought within the car if this was the problem.

Try those checks next and see on the floor in relation to the car the comments above to the leak source.

sorry to waffle on but hope this helps.
