Default Led bulb type, mood lighting.

The VW Passat has a red light in the roof console that lights up the centre console gear stick area. I see the S80 has a couple of green lights in the roof console but do not seen to do much.

What sort of lights/bulbs are these like in the VW that show where the light lands with no visual beam. Hop this makes sense.

Want to add some extra ambient lighting to the car, already got front and rear floor led. Would love to do d something like the new mercs have.

The W8 interior light mod. I did that on my V6TDI. I'd try this. If the interior light has a pcb and theres an inch clearnace and these leds do nowt, lop em off at the pcb making sure they dont touch and blob some clear rtv over the connections to make sure nowts shorting out. Find a switched 12V feed or proper Bulb feed and run some Green LEDS iff the feed. Now for the clever bit. Go on ebay and search for rc car led lights. On guy sells 4 with a choice of front and rear colours, a 9v battery, switch and connector for sub £5. The bonus is the LEDS are individually wired and also have a current limiting resistor in the cable. Pop em in the already holes you have now and solder to the source you found to power them.

I believe the red lighting that points to the centre console is called submarine lighting?

It's not a new thing, I had mood lighting (or "ambient lighting" as they called it) on a 2003 Merc E-class I had some years ago. You'd think it would be distracting whilst driving at night but it was subtle & made it a nice place to be
