Default V50. 1.6 Diesel

Hi

I’m looking at buying a 2011 v50 1.6 diesel r design. It has 39000 miles on the clock. I believe it’s the 8 valve engine and not the 16 valve. I have been looking online and have heard some horror stories regarding the turbo and dpf. Are these problems just on the 16 valve or does the 8 valve suffer as well. The vehicle has fsh but ham very wary as don’t want to buy trouble. Would appreciate any advice.

Cheers.

I had over 70k trouble free miles in my 2012 V50 (8 valve) before I traded it for the XC60 last December.

Absolutely nO issues with the turbo or DPF

The newer 8v D2 should be lower maintenance than the older 16v 1.6D. That said, the car you're looking at has a pretty low mileage and that sort of usage doesn't best suit any diesel and their DPF. If it's a private buyer I'd see how many long runs the car has got as if it's been all school run and local shops the DPF might not be in the best of states.
