Default Hardwiring a Dashcam

Has anyone any tips or pointers on hardwiring a Dashcam (Nextbase 512) into a 2012 MY V70?

Looking for where to pick up the switched live in particular. The earth should be fairly obvious.

Running using the supplied lighter plug is a no, due to the stupid socket position around the drivers elbow.

Ta in advance!

(I do have a similar thread running in the XC90 section, as I'm doing both cars)

Used the above and wired to the fuse box under the passenger dash.

That's what I did as I did not want to cut the plug from the dash cam.

I also have the Nextbase 512gw is it the latest one with Wi-Fi.

You need one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Nextb...38.m2548.l4275
If you need one in a hurry Halfords do them but they charge £20

Hi,

I've just done this in my 2014 V70 - ran it behind the glove box, through the center console and arm-rest section and hooked it up to the wires on the rear socket with spade connectors.

Was fairly easy, completly hidden and I didn't have to cut any wires.

Thanks

Brilliant! Sounds a lot easier than I thought it would be. Thanks for your posts.

If you pull the door rubber off the A-pillar it's actually very easy to run the wiring inside the A-pillar and above the windscreen.

On my xc70 the fuse boxes are in the load area, left hand side behind an access panel. 3 fuse boxes, middle one being ignition controlled and spare ways in it. Unfortunately I have been unable to source the terminalsthat fit the fuse box but a work around is a short length of cable with a remote fuse one end and a crimped spade end the other. I used the piggy back fuse thing that came with the hard wire kit from nextbase.
As I was fitting front and rear cameras it was 2 hard wire kits. Ran cables up c pillar and out through the rubber conduit to the tailgate for the rear one and by dropping the interior lights was able to fish the cable over the headlining from back to front and out of the headlining just to the side of the interior mirror.

The hard wire kits are a twin cable so picked up the earth return adjacent to the fuse box in the boot for both.
Been fitted 4 years now with no problem.

Paul.

Seen the hard wire kit but could not find one with the L shaped plug camera side like the original. Wire would stick out too far for my liking..

I've connected the front dashcam to the fuse panel under the glovebox using 'piggy back' connectors. With the use of a toggle switch, I can flip the power from permanent live to ignition switched. NOTE: most of the fuses are permanent live so it takes some hunting to find the switched one.

Didn't bother with a hardwire kit & used the original lead into an accessory socket mounted under the dashboard with the wire run up A-pillar & tucked in the headlining. Using separate socket makes it easy to add other chargers for phone, sat nav etc without messing around with cables, & it can all be readily removed when I come to sell the car.

I didn't know about those fuse-box break-in adaptors, will definitely get some.

I'm going to be installing a dash-cam in a couple of days that has a separate rear camera with a power lead that needs to be fed from the reverse light.

Should be a fun wiring session
