Default 2010 V70 D3 Aux belt and tensioner intervals

Hello.

I can't find a consensus on the internet on the replacement interval for the aux belt and tensioner on a 2010 D3 5 cylinder 163PS diesel V70. Read here it is five years, but get 10 years at another source I trust.

Also, I have water pooling between the inner and outer wings where there is a foam sound deadening insert. This is at the trailing edge of the bonnet by the hinges. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks.

Aux belt and tensioner are prone to failure, I would change it earlier than later personally!

Can't remember from memory but I thought they were every 6 years but recommended at 5 as it seems to be a weak point, although yours might be the earlier type that should of been changed at 4 years with a newer modified type?

ideally it needs to be checked on VIDA with your vehicle details!

If your happy posting your vin here someone with a current VIDA sub can check for you if they are feeling helpful

Default Vida and VIN

Hello steadvex thanks for your reply.

I have a laptop here that I'm just setting up with Vida/Dice. The car is new to me joining a C30 and V40 Classic. However you mention sub....I didn't know about a subscription?!

The VIN is YV1BW5250B1174503.

Thanks.

The VIDA+DICE kits that folks make up on a laptop for reading fault codes and making some changes to the setup of a car are not licenced and a connection to the internet is not needed for them to work. In fact, an internet connection is best avoided because pushed updates to the laptop's operating system and other installed programs can make the VIDA app unstable and stop it running. This stand alone mode does provide quite a lot of functionality for an individual car owner.

Volvo dealers and some independents pay a licence fee for full VIDA functionality. No sure of the price but it will not be cheap! In that mode the garage can see the complete history of the car, plus download and install new software updates, search for recalls etc. That all requires an internet connections back to Volvo servers, in Sweden I assume.

Hope that explanation helps.

The Aux belt and tensioner is replaced with the cambelt etc at 108000 miles or 10 years , the AUX belt only is changed every 54000 miles ...

Except that it's the aux belt tensioner that is the weak link. I change the aux belt tensioner along with the belt every 5 years as I do not reach the 54,000 mile limit in the 5 years. Cam belt will be at 10 years well short of the 108,000 miles.
Given the few hundred pounds this will cost I consider it sound investment compared to the few thousand pounds a replacement engine will cost.

I had all the belts and I thought the tentioners changed as part of the deal when I bought my V70.with 103k on the clock. At around 120k some three years later I checked the aux belt and was worried that it was badly cracked on the ridged side so decided to replace it. I decided to replace the tentioners as well as the failure of the pulley is well documented. On removal the tentioners was in my opinion the original and had not been changed by the dealer but was in surprisingly good condition. I changed it any way . The belt is the main culprit for failure IMO but change tentioners every 56k as recommended.

Thanks for the replies. Going to go for the cautious approach, aux belt and tensioner now.

Does anyone know if this car will have a M66 or TF-80SC autobox? Got VIDA working fine but autobox code is not read by VIDA.
