Default S40 Rear R-Design Conversion - A Guide

Hi all,

After reading a couple of threads on the forum I decided to take this on myself.

Thought I'd outline a few things that might help you if you undertake it yourself.

I did start a thread myself on the wiring of the rear lights - where I was told I would need the block connector of the new shape to power the new shape lights. This isn't the case!

(If you're a V50 owner I do believe you need the block connectors; judging from other V50 owners comments on their threads...
I bought them myself from Volvo..! I have them lying round if anyone wants them!)
The S40 is a much easier conversion than the V50 it seems...?!

To complete the build on a S40 you only need -
New shape Lights
New shape Bumper

To wire the lights prise out the wires from the existing block connector (how to do this is outlined in another thread) & re wire using my shockingly drawn diagrams below.
You have a gray & green block on each light - driver & passenger. I've scribbled down the before & after on a page of A4 with the colour of the wire & what function it powers. (from the perspective that they're still plugged into the light & you're looking down at it... If that makes sense!
There is no need to cut any wires or splice wires across to other block connectors on the S40 unless you like making hard work for yourself.

The bumper is a simple fit too - follow the instructions on the thread by 'jonnieb' & you won't go far wrong (you do need to remove some of the plastic clips on the chassis as the new bumper sits on them differently.)

Any questions feel free to ask!

Various pictures below.

Hope it helps!

Hi andybsl55.

When searching for the type of a connector on my Jeep Wrangler I fell over an image coming from your "Rear Lights" thread. That's exactly the type of connector I am looking for.

You mentioned that you have managed to purchase it but you never published any reference as you solved your issue my other means if I understood well. To me it would however be of big help if you could tell me what brand the connector is or any other reference.

Here is my connector:

I just fitted a facelift rear bumper and tail lights on my '05 and I'm trying to figure out how to re-wire them to work properly. I can't seem to access the attached thumbnails in the OP. If you still have them would you mind PM'ing them to me? Thanks a million.
