Outside temperature gauge?
The outside temperature gauge was an option on 904s and may (perhaps) have been standard on Sport Editions.
My Sport Edition has a blank screen (with a picture of a snowflake beside it) where the outside temperature display should be. Does anyone know how to find out if I have a non-working outside temperature gauge (and if so what might fix it) or just a dummy panel? If they are truly standard on all Sport Editions then I have a non-working one and merely need to know how to fix it! |

I think they were only standard on the CD model .
They should look like this: It sounds like you have the gauge as otherwise you would just have a blanking plate. The sender is in the lower grille below the bumper, here: Not sure how you could test it though.

Does the dash space get illuminated when the lights are on? If not, and the space just looks like black plastic then there is no display unit present. Have you found a sender unit in place? It is possible that (if fitted) the connections at the sender unit have corroded and need cleaning. Even if there is no display unit and no sender unit there may still be the appropriate wiring in place.
The sender and also the display from a 960 should also be a good fit for your car. If you also need the wiring then removal from any donor car is not difficult although you may need to cut off the connector to get the wiring past any obstructions, including the bulkhead. These are sometimes amongst the 'first pick' items at a breakers. Fitting a display unit is a bit of a fiddle and the instrument panel may well need to be taken out for a clear access. This has been don on various cars here. Helpful pictures in the previous post - thanks.

Hi,
Quote:
Hopefully, when removing the dash unit this was realised and you get the two screws and the display unit! Not one screw and a display unit with one broken screw locator! Des. . .

No sensor
Right - there is no such sensor fitted to my car (nearside of bottom grille). Perished if I can see how you got inside to take the picture though without taking the radiator and intercooler out!

If you have the display, but no sensor, then chances are that your clocks have been changed at some point.
Many times it's easier to change a whole set of clocks if one or more have packed in as people can't be ar5ed stripping them down!! If memory serves, the wiring should be there already, especially on later models as yours is a Sport. However, 960 displays and senders won't work apparently, as the plugs/wiring is different, IIRC 940 plugs are black and 960's are white (at the display end anyway, not sure about the sender) Hope this helps, Steve

I had one of these in my sports, both the sensor and the gauge, but could never find the plug to plug it into. Then I discovered that there are two types of gauge, that look the same except for the plug being different. One I believe is Grey the other white. Early one are white later ones are Grey I believe hope this helps.

OK, I appreciate that this is for a 760 but the basics will be the same.

As far as I was aware if you had Climate control then you had the outside temp guage, hence the CD always has the temp guage. If you only have air con, then no guage..........
