S40 t4 engine mount replacement
Hi
usually in the 700-900 section but just got a 2001 s40 t4 phase2. Just getting everything right on the car. It is suffering a hard start/rough idle due to a fuel regulator. And I was in formed it need a new drivers side mount, the big can looking one. Not sure which is contributing to the roughness the most. So am i correct that this is a hydro mount? it seems to be leaking some fluid or rusty water. I've looked up the part 30611474 and it states to be used with 30630605 the bracket on cars with a c/n 715099 and lower. So does any one know why? The bracket is just a solid piece of alloy. Do you destroy it when removing it from the mount? |

Top mount?
Its usually the top mount that goes, i replaced them twice on my old 2.0T (99 MY) its the one marked '1' in the diagram, they last perhaps 60k miles a go.

I'll check it out.
Is it possible mount no.32 has filled with water and that is what I'm seeing, as it just doesn't seem collapsed or loose. But it is oil filled right? |

which mount
Not sure if some of the mounts are oil filled, im pretty sure the top one is solid rubber, but with voids, if you look at one thats on the way out it will have cracks or splits. You would notice it pulling away with some throttle as thats when the mounts are being pushed around, say a knocking noise as you do this would be a clue that the mount is letting the engine move too much under load.
Not overly familiar with the later S40s but i would say the mounts are 1,14,23 and 7 in that diagram The top mount comes as as the complete aluminium casting with the rubber core in the centre.. |

No that is the oil that leaks out. Mine went last year bought a used one and stuck it on. A guy called Ashok has fitted one from the phase 1 as its stronger to his phase 2. He said its a direct fit so if mine ever goes I'll be fitting one of them
And welcome to this section by the way Danny |

solid to oil filled?
Maybe the type 1 mounts weren't oil filled, but they changed them to oil filled in the next gen, i know with things like wishbone bushes volvo seemed to be using oil filled around 2001-2004 but then back to rubber only (same stories here of the bushes leaking oil). Im pretty sure the type one variety (top mount) is solid rubber, with voids but no oil.

figured this out
the new volvo oem hydraulic mount in the volvo box is keyed 180 deg from the old aluminium brace. so It does not fit up correctly. At some point volvo have rotated the key 180 deg. |
