Default 4.5 KPZ wheels

Few weeks ago sourced a set of wheels which I want to use during the winter months here in sweden with studded tyres . Want to fit these while I store my 5.5J's with summer tyres. Had the old tyres removed and left them to get blasted and repainted.

Picked them up today and was well pleased with the result..

...until I noticed that one of them was not the same width ..dang!¤%¤##&%%¤¤!!! My bad..On closer inspection saw it was a 4.5J KPZ.

So now I have a nice ornament to hang on the wall. Luckily the painter had a couple of spare 4J Amazon rims so he'll be getting one ready for me to pick up next week.

What were these 4.5J KPZ rims fitted to..the estates ????

Cool

What are the 6 figure part numbers on each wheel?
4" - 670429
4 1/2" - 670451 for Estate (Most have a safety bead on the rim but same number for both types AFAIK)
4 1/2" - 668280 for 1800 (lighter weight)

With a date of 7/69 I'm hoping that these aren't 140 wheels with the different PCD. Worth checking them on your car.

That 4.5" is the odd one out and i'm not going to be using it, thought they were all 4J
The reemainig three are all 4" and getting another next week to complete the set I need for winter.

Thought all 4J X15 rims from Volvo with the eight vents in them were all the same ? Same size/width and backset.

I know for a fact that these wheels were taken of Amazons.

Had a look at the stamp markings..The remaing three I have are :

4J 6033B '67 ( Kpz stamped )
4J 670429 '66 ( S stamped )
4J 670429 '66 ( S stamped )

Hey Derek. I had always assumed I had estate wheels on my car. 4.5 inch with the safety bead. But just looking at some photos of when I got mine painted I can see the number 668280. According to the above; that means they are lighter weight 1800 wheels. But did these have the safety bead?

haha!..no worries..am confused as much as you..and interested in the number game. The guy I bought them off had six wheels, I chose the best four but made a mistake on one as they all had tyres on. Couldn't see the numbers for the rust and umpteen coats of paint.

It does get very confusing, doesn't it. My Estate came with 4 1/2" rears and 4" fronts. Didn't find out until I went to put some full trims on. Rears were smooth, no safety bead type. Managed to get another pair of smooth 4 1/2" ones to match. All are numbered 670451.

Derek,

Your comment makes me think of a "problem" that often occurs in such situations/talks - or how to put it..

Volvo did then, just as they do now - for instance campaign-sell winter wheels complete - I have adds for set of complete wheels for both Amazon/140/240 in same add - meaning: It's very likely that you could find an "original" Amazon wheel that could be stamped later than say 1970..

I hope you get my point - it's just often so, that we tend to think "everything" ended when model-year ended.. Not so, especially with Volvo - as you could buy (most) parts for the Amazon model all up during and late into the 1980'ies.

I got the feeling that the date stamped got you "worried" for the wheels to be right for the Amazon series - so just my thought on this..
