Default S60 D5 egr blanking...

Morning fellow volvo friends, I sorted out my starting problems, starter motor fault, changed and all good now so thank you for all your advice. Result. Whilst I was doing the starter I removed some turbo pipes and a alloy joint that bolts to the engine for better access, this seems to join onto the egr system and was jam packed with carbon stuff. My question is can this be blanked off like on ford's. Had a monde yrs ago that suffered this and when . Blanked it off and cleaned all the crud from the inlet manifold it drove like a new car. Would blanking my d5 generate a fault code or something else. Would like to do this to stop this crud from building up again. after cleaning it all out car is much much better..Any thoughts???
Chris..

this is for the 163 bhp.
for 2002 year you will not get a error with a complete blanking plate from 2003 to 2005 you will get a error fault with a full plate but if you fit the above no errors but that defeats the object of having a hole there.
you could have the egr mapped out.
