Default XC90 front under bumper defuser overhaul

Mine was looking a bit sorry for itself from 10 years of road wear. Decided to take it off and give it a coat of hammerite smooth silver. Had to remove the front bumper to gain access. Quite an easy process to remove the front bumper once I read my Haynes manual. I'm pleased with the result

I love how easily the front of the 90 comes apart! Its like a giant Tonka toy.

How easy was it to retro-fit the facelift HIDs? Does the ABL function work?

The headlights were just plug and play on MY2003. Have got the warning light on indicating dipped main beam failure, but i can live with it. Bought a 10 Ohm resistor to wire in to fool the ECM. Its due to the old halogens being 55W (i think) and these just 35 or something. Never got round to fitting it as i believe that it wont pass a MOT with the HIDS if i don't have the washer connection. As for ABL, certain it doesn't work

If there was a 'like' button I would press it. I was just thinking the same thing today about my diffuser and wondered how much of a bugger of a job it might be!

Thank you.

It's worth doing. A little bit awkward, just needs a bit of a wiggle if you don't take the bumper off.
It's quite a heavy chunk of metal though.

So you can do it without taking the number off?? Will have a look at the weekend.

I've taken bumpers off before but with a three-weeks-until-she-pops wife, I don't fancy having to man handl the bumper myself and risk scratching it!

I did this last year, a great DIY job, really smartens the front end up.

There is no need to take the bumper off, you can slide the pan down and bend the bumper sufficiently to get the pan off. Do a search on the forum for lots of threads on this.

A bit OT, but I was told they would NOT work on my 05 model (halogens at mo) and would just point at the ground??

I take it you simply aligned the beans manually with the adjusters on the lamps themselves?

Did the same to mine when the bumpers were getting colour coded. Just freshens the front up.
