I'm 99% sure that 140BHP Audi engine was originally found in the 850 then P1 Volvo's. I certainly had that engine in my 1997 V70 P1. .

Just another option to look at in scrappys.

Cheers

Bob

Indeed. The more I need to get done on my car (at least engine-wise), the more I realise I need to consider it a Volvaudi... (you heard that word here first...)

This is the number stamped into the dipstick: 074115611M

Googling that number returns some German sites, containing the word, "oelmesstab". "oel" = oil? "stab" = "stick-it-in"?

http://www.original-genuine-spare-pa...oelmesstab.htm

Pretty sure that's it, so I'll keep looking into it.

If I'm correct, the part number you need is 9497470. It is however no longer available from Volvo, but it apparently still is available from VW/Audi. I can't seem to find their part number for the dipstick, and none of the breakers yards up here have any of those engines unfortunately. I will continue to search for one, and will ask my Audi contact to see if he can help.

Bodged something together yesterday: 2mm hole drilled in tip of 6mm rawl plug, lashings of glue - nice & solid, functionally equivalent to OE, if not as pretty.

Crappy 2meg phone pics, but ye get the jist of it...

I'll keep browsing breakers for a proper replacement, but I'm happy with this for the foreseeable future.

Thanks all, specially Dancake.

Looks alright for now, you could go the whole hog and fashion up a loop to pull on too by drilling a small hole across the rawlplug and threading a splitring fron a keyfob through it... ;-)

I bought a replacement dip stick from http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/parts_monster did the job but actually compatible with a whole range of these petrol engines for around £14 inc p&p its excellent value in comparison with the local "stealer" you could also try FRF for a good value replacement .

NB - You could try emailing parts monster via there contact details.

Mine had broken in the tube, attempts with pliers pushed it further down. Binding a screw to a soldering iron and gently turning it before allowing the iron to cool did the trick.

One of those things to get 2 for spare from the breakers. Broke mine too when removing the p/s pump, fairly easily to damage it.
