Default Universal Heater Control Valve

I need a new heater control valve. My options appear to be:
1. source an original and pay £250+
2. use the Amazon version from Classic Swede with a couple of hose elbows to ensure bonnet clearance - about £100
3. adapt a universal type found on ebay for less than £20 - same as Brookhouse are selling I think

I'm tending towards 2 - but has anyone any experience of 2 or 3?

Or even better - know where I can find a proper p1800 version for sensible money!

Thanks
Philip

Philip;

May I suggest option 4! Rebuild or have it rebuilt, using replacement seal kit 660-1000. I had trouble locating one of these kits, finally getting it from Mr. Tucker the rebuilder...I have since seen them offered on the bay of E.

See: http://www.sw-em.com/Heater_Control_Valve.htm

Cheers

Thanks Ron - it did cross my mind, however, the existing HCV has been braised or soldered in the past and I'm not sure, even if it's leak-free currently, whether it's worth rebuilding.

You might need to mod the actuating arm.

Thanks Derek - wonder why Jag part is cheaper when it's essentially the same (at least as the Amazon)?

Do you think the eBay Volvo 245 will fit? I like that one as horizontal outflow will feed straight onto existing heater core hose.

Derek;

That Jag Valve looks pretty much like the Volvo fitted H16 Ranco! ...and even if as you suggest it needed to be reconfigured for use in the Volvo application, I would expect that could be done with parts coming from the failed valve.

I did a bodge job many years ago when the valve started leaking. It's still like it, but looks ugly

I must go over to my neighbour's later to nosey under the bonnet of his E-Type!
