Default Upgrade standard cruise control to adaptive cruise control

The X90 loaner I recently had was equipped with ACC. I wish I have ordered this.
Anecdotally, I have heard that in the T8s, it is a simple software download to upgrade as no hardware is required. As is usually the case the dealers are blissfully unaware of any of this. Perusing Swedespeed,It has been done officially across the pond.

Does anyone have any information about this in UK?.

You need hardware. You need the radar unit which forms part of the intellisafe package. On My16 cars like mine and yours Intellisafe had to be ordered as an extra. Without that I cannot see that it is possible to do via software alone......

Apparently you dont from what I can see.

I believe if you want pilot assist, then you need the radar hardware, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

For cars built from and including chassis number 17202, a hydraulic unit is required. Cars built up to and including chassis number 17201, and Twin Engine, do not need to order a hydraulic unit as it comes as standard in the car

You need the radar unit (as a minimum) in order for ACC to operate. It's the radar system that measures the distance and speed of the vehicle in front.

Afaik, the radar unit and its associated systems are only available as part of the Intellisafe package.

I asked my dealer about this when the software upgrade became available from PA1 to PA2 a couple of months back, Lexman is right, radar unit is required and he also mentioned something else, some kind of hydraulics unit for the steering I presume. Anyway, total cost was about 1600, needless to say that was the end of the conversation.

My understanding is that the T8 inscription came with the radar unit as standard. I could be wrong.

My brother in law has upgraded his D5 momentum to ACC and it is purely a software upgrade as all the hardware is there. Contact Ray Chapman Volvo at York if you need any advice as they did it.

I have just had a call from a dealer I rang earlier....It is easily done. They have confirmed it is only a software update over 2 hours or so.

I am considering getting it done.

I have read about the hydraulics before, but since the steering is electric, I assume it is not for steering.
That seems to be confirmed in this installation guide under "4" where it says that it's about the brakes.

It certainly looks like it's fitted. The lens you can see in the pic is for the camera that feeds the Pilot Assist system. Kinda surprising that it's fitted (but unused) as standard given how costly it is.

However, thinking about it more, if all XC90s have AEB (which I assume they do?) it would require the radar unit to be fitted anyway.
