Air pollution - who's the worst particulate polluter?
From Der Spiegel:
Where the air is dirtiest: http://www.spiegel.de/international/...-international First question: Particulate matter has myriad sources. What do you think is the primary source of particulate matter in Germany? This might very well be exactly the same in the UK - i.e. - it is not the cars (read diesel cars) that are the main polluters - as many have also suggested here in various threads. Answer: Traffic 16,323 votes Agriculture 5,877 votes Industry 20,329 Votes - and my selection... Correct, industrial processes produce the greatest share of particulate matter (42 percent) in Germany, according to the Federal Environment Agency, with metalwork being the primary culprit. In second place is agriculture (23 percent) followed by traffic (15 percent), with tire, brake and clutch friction responsible for more than vehicle exhaust.

It's also petrol cars that emit more particulate matte now, rather than diesels.

Never let the truth get in the way of a green bandwagon though, and an opportunity to generate more motoring taxes.

Indeed the facts are there! Petrols produce more harmful particulate matter than DPF equipped diesels. |

Petrol, diesel, whatever, its all a smokescreen (sorry!) to give an excuse to raise tax.
The London mayor has started already. Not by banning vehicles (which would in theory remove pollution, but only to somewhere else) but by raising revenue. Obvious where the priorities lie.

I'm not denying any of this. But it gets on my nerve when I see people slanting diesels when they themselves don't know why.. Sure, I could (provided that I won lottery or something) pay off few newspapers and TV stations to start spreading information that elephants are bad as they feed on human scalps and we need to exterminate them. But would that be true? And yet I have that feeling that lots and lots of folk would believe it. Repeat it. Spread it.. Really makes me sad. Edit: It gets on my nerve when people are slanting ANYTHING that they don't know much about.. Or don't understand. Last edited by ThomasG; Jan 18th, 2018 at 14:04. |
