Maybe we should start a Polestar Owners map

I didn't on my first Volvo, but then forgot to tell them not to on this one (so I now have it).

St James,
Pardon my naivety, why did you buy a D4 and Polestar it, rather than a D5 from the outset? I'm under the impression that a Polestar'd D4 is effectively the same as a D5. I'm guessing it was cheaper and you have a D5 with a number 4 on the back. I'm interested as looking for a D5, but it might make sense to get a D4 AWD and map it. Thanks |

Polestar upgrade
Hi, I’ve got the S80 D5 SE Lux auto with the polestar upgrade and having driven the S80 without it and with it, the difference is very, very noticeable.
The car pulls like a train and just keeps on going until you run out of nerves or road, but forget that bit and it makes overtaking easy and slick, and the gear changes seem a lot better. I did panic this winter with all the snow and thought the polestar upgrade would make driving fun, if not down right impossible, but it pulled up the steep hill without any fuss although I did use manual mode and followed the owners manual pulling away in 2nd. Fuel consumption hasn’t suffered and it isn’t any better, so there doesn’t appear to be any benefits from that end, the one benefit is seeing the shock on people’s faces in your rear view mirror when they realise the Volvo in front has gone and they struggle to even catch up...... makes you smile and that’s worth the dosh.. |

The badge for my polestar is in the glovebox and that's where it's staying...

Would the Polestar cause any issues with the clutch/flywheel on a xc60 D4 AWD manual, as I had a map done by a well know tuner in Mansfield and it instantly killed the clutch/flywheel at 55k! I've had clutch/flywheel/slave cylinder all replaced and dubious about getting a Polestar map on it after the cost I've just had sorting it from the last map!?

The map is declared on my insurance & very few people know what it actually means.

It was much cheaper (same spec D5's were £3k more expensive), Polestar maintains the Volvo warranty, and my insurance company didn't charge me any extra (at the time) as it's a Volvo option. I also drove a D5 - Polestar doesn't just increase the power and torque, it transforms the driving characteristics of the auto box too - so a Polestar D4 is, IMO, better than a standard D5. J

OK, it was done today. I say again, my XC60 is a manual D5, MY 2016. I've owned it for 16 months. Its now got 14,500 miles on the clock. (Bought it with 3,500 on it). The car has always given me an average fuel economy reading of 37mpg and when its on a decent road, it gets 'used' when its safe to do so. I'm a sad git who records the trip mileage between tank fill ups and the amount of fuel to fill the tank. The 20 mile or so drive back home, initial impressions...... It doesn't throw you back in your seat. I think I noticed a slight difference in 4th and 5th, it felt smoother and quicker when accelerating in those gears. But could this be a placebo effect after paying the invoice? Yes the cost could have been much bigger! Was it worth the money, initial impression probably not. Yes I have a 14 day return period. This coming weekend sees us going on our jollies and we will be racking up some miles, so after this break and over 1000 miles I hope to be able to provide a better 'review' as we drive around a part of Scotland and also be able to see if there is any difference with fuel economy, (I'm not expecting there to be any change in that.)

Several years ago I had an aftermarket remap on a Scirocco. Took probably 100 miles for a noticeable difference. Not sure if Polestar is same take a bit of time for the ECU to adapt. Can't comment on my XC60 as it was already done when I bought it 95000 miles ago
And the blue badge dropped off the back during the first jetwash!
