The 780 has a slightly more delicate (?) coordinated look than the Maserati I think, but the similarities are certainly there.
Can anyone tell me what the name of the 760 alloys used on this early 780 are called please, I've always liked them and if I could get a set, they would be a cheaper alternative to Eikers.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_mronsrrP8 Thank you |

Thanks for the YouTube. Sorry I am no help re the wheels.
If you really want Eiker wheels, you will always really, want Eiker wheels? Which wheels do you really want? ***** I like the look of both wheels. Yes. But personally, on most cars including most Volvos, I count them as wheels that "steal the show". But as much as I like to see see classy cars, I'm of the get from A to B class of car driver. Omega wheels are the, last word . Last edited by Stephen Edwin; Aug 11th, 2018 at 10:27. |

Maybe they were styled by the same design house?
As for the wheels, the nearest i could find was "Adhara" on Pg14 of this pdf : https://accessories.volvocars.com/Le...R_GB_NL_DE.pdf Sure i've seen those wheels on something as standard fit (besides that 780 in the vid!), maybe the early 740 GLE or perhaps 760GLE - can't think just now.

Update today is the 780 failed its MOT (not a surprise or a problem, I wanted it doing to get a list of issues to correct prior to UK Registration).
Annoyingly, one fail point was the lack of side repeaters in the wings. My plan is to install them (I have removed the Volvo badge used on the US spec 780 and the standard rectangular holes are behind). The MOT requires cars post 1986 to have side repeaters but guidance to the Tester is that if the car has indicators on the front corner (as per the 700s inc 780), then no additional wing repeater is required, so long as the orange flashing light can be seen when stood 1m directly to the side of the front light cluster (which is the case for the 780). Unfortunately the MOT Tester wants the wing repeaters fitted before re-testing. Mechanically, just a CV boot to replace. Comment from the MOT tester - "That car is incredible underneath, I have never seen a 28 yr old car so solid - it'd be good on a 5 year old car - You have done really well there!" On reflection, the MOT Tester remains on my Christmas Card List |

Looking at the photo of your car that you found the online article for, i can see why he's failed it :
It has those amber reflectors on the side of the indicator/sidelight lenses which would block the majority (if not all) of the indicators side illumination. Have you got some side repeaters and if not, would you prefer clear or Tango - errr, orange? Think i've got a couple of pairs left of each, bought a load ages ago as a job lot, used some, sold some and think i've still got some.

To be fair, its not an issue, though the light visible from 1m to the side is more than most repeaters.
I've bought a pair of Tango with black surrounds, there is a lot of chrome and clear may be a better solution, I'll try both. If you have spares, DM me and I'll buy a couple. |
