That could mean anything from starting work on it in 2-3 years. I doubt any new car on a new platform will be lunched in the next 3 years.

Volvo time frames are often nonsense too, all old cars were supposed to have been replaced by next month but there's still no sign of a new CMA V40.

I didn’t think the V40 was being replaced? Aren’t they just running it to ground this year?

Back in 2015 they said the V40 would be replaced by Feb 2019 https://www.topgear.com/car-news/rev...019-masterplan

My Volvo dealer said that he wont be able to order more V40s from February 15 on. Which means that in 15 days, V40 orders will be over and you can only find these cars on available stock.
If the V40 is going to be replaced: Volvo communicated internally to all the dealers that the replacement of the V40 is coming but no details were given.
The orders are to get rid of all V40 available stock.

So if anyone is interested in finding a good deal on a brand new V40, maybe March could be a good month for it.

Regarding the SPA replacement: apparently it's not going to be a major change from the current platform. This is to accommodate their EV and PHEV strategy on the long term, to allow bigger batteries and wireless charging. This makes sense because if you just make cars that are either EV or PHEV the space for the engine block for example could be designed in a different way since you dont need to fit diesel engines in there.

I think the same as above, change is to accommodate EV's across the range.

Seems odd, the V40 has reasonable sales so stopping it with no replacement seems daft unless they are hoping people will order the XC40 instead until a replacement comes along, but by all accounts they aren't making enough XC40s as it is. Perhaps the V40 line will switch to XC40s in the intrim?

It does tally up with the Feb 2019 quote from 2015 though so probably a case of Volvo only having an agreement to use the Ford tech until that date.

Auto Express attempted to cover this a few days ago: see here.
