Default Side Mirror Over Extending

This issue was originally posted in a different section, so thought I'd add it here in case its useful for anyone.

When unlocking the car, my drivers side mirror extended to it's normal operating position, but instead of stopping, it carried on extending to the furthest point making it unusable. It was also very loose, as it was not held in position.

I was all prepared for buying a new (£350 plus?) or 2nd hand (£200+?) complete unit, but did some research and found these great vids on youtube.

It's all due to a small pin that become corroded and doesn't extend and locate on a ring below (you can see all this in the videos). Once its removed, cleaned up and lubricated then it works perfectly again.

Anyway, a few simple tools and 60 mins later, and it was all fixed thanks to the excellent guides below. It's actaully easier than the videos make it look, just keep and eye on the small spring retaining clip, as when it pings off, it goes miles!!
