Default non dealer servicing

I have a V90 lease which will be going back in a couple of months. Its soon due its 24 month service.
Volvo want £500 for a service. Local independents and likes of Halfords suggest £250-275 for a "manufacture service".
My lease company and Volvo are okay with non dealer servicing as long as volvo parts are used.

Is there anywhere to locate a list of the service items required for this service before i book it in? I know the service book in older models used to have a checklist, but can't see it in this one.

If it was my car i'd stick with dealer servicing, but considering the nearest dealer is awful and i can't be bothered to do a 2 hour round trip to my next closest i'll go with non dealer.
Cheers in advance.

I wouldn’t let Halfords change a light bulb… they haven’t got a clue what they’re doing. I’d stay clear of them personally.

Your best option is to find an independent Volvo Specialist, who will be cheaper than a main dealer. I’m not sure about the checklist, but a specialist will know & advise what needs doing as per Volvo’s spec.

Alternatively, you could ring your main dealer & ask them what’s included in a 24 month service. They should give you this info & then you can jot it down / pass it on to the garage of your choice.

If you're handing the car back, then I'm not sure it really matters where you take it to get the service stamp as long as they use Volvo parts (as indicated by the lease company).

If Halfords can give you an itemised invoice with the approved parts listed, then I'd go with that if it's the cheapest option.

I think that there's really no sense in paying dealership (or good indy) servicing costs if you're only going to keep the car a few more months.

£250-£275 would be the average indi cost for a full service, there or thereabouts (in Manchester anyway, so it probably varies). There’s not much in the difference between an indi & Halfords cost wise, but an indi would be my choice over Halfords if they were more or less the same price.

I suppose, if the OP is getting rid of the car, it makes sense to go with the cheapest option available. You just have to make sure that they use genuine parts & show proof of it (as you say), otherwise the lease company could throw a spanner in the works.

Two other options.

1. What date was the car last serviced. If the date you're handing it back is less than 12 months since the last service (you may have had the first service done late), then you don't need to get it serviced. A useful tip for leasers - get the first service done after 13 months....gives you 1 month grace when handing back a 24 or 36 month lease as the subsequent services only need to be at 25 or 37 months. All as per Volvo's terms and conditions of service times etc.

2. The penalty on most leases is around £100 for having missed a service. This is cheaper than getting the service done. Check your contract T&C's though. Is up to you, but I've used this option in the past.

Oh, and I forgot the 3rd option. Serve notice to the lease company you're handing the car back 1-2 weeks early. You won't need to service it.

eg my current contract is the same - words as below. The measure often used on inspection is if the service light/warning message on the dashboard is on! If it's off, it isn't due a service....

Servicing

Service Book / Information : Missing / Incomplete

Must be serviced according to the manufacturer servicing/maintenance schedule and where supplied the service book must be present and date-stamped by an authorised service agent. If the service book is electronic ensure this is updated according to the manufacturer servicing/maintenance schedule.

Penalty Per Vehicle
£100
...and on Volvo's T&C's :
To ensure that you continue to benefit from your Volvo Warranty you must:

1. Have your car serviced in accordance with the Volvo Service Programme as detailed in the Service Record section of this booklet. Every service must be completed within one month or 1,000 miles of the specified service interval.

thank you for all the helpful comments. i need to keep for a few months longer than the 24 month window due to delays in next vehicle, so as it'll only do a couple of thousand miles during this time and its not my car i'll go for the cheapest option which ticks the lease company's box. if it was my own car i wouldn't let halfords or kwikfit anywhere near it either

Seems fair to me. Before I part-ex'd my Porsche Macan (at the end of the PCP deal), I had it serviced at a tire shop. They were pretty good and used Porsche parts, but the service cost almost a grand less than a Porsche main dealer.

I didn't get any comeback after the agreement was closed.

I'm kicking myself that I could have had one or more cheaper services doing it this way.
