Default V70 T6 AWD- Ticking/clicking on deceleration/engine breaking

Hello everyone looking to try to diagnose a potential issue.

I've noticed recently when I take my foot off the accelerator and allow the car to slow down using engine breaking that I hear a faint ticking/clicking sound. It gets louder as a draw to a stop.

The sound most definitely relates to speed - the clicking is much faster at higher speeds than when drawing to a stop. I don't think it's related to engine revolutions though, as I've manually shifted to lower/higher gears to see if it alters the sound, it doesn't appear to, but the act of changing gear does seem to provoke the sound

It's not a loud noise from within the car, but certainly noticeable, and very much noticeable from the outside - it's not something that I can feel through the steering wheel either and doesn't sound like a CV joint.

The car is an AWD T6, so not many of these around - hoping that someone on here has experienced this on another model and can shed some light on it

TIA, Phil

So the noise goes away when you accelerate?

my thoughts are drive train as it seems to be speed related rather than engine revs - was was wondering whether we have an issue related to the AWD system

What if you knock it into neutral and coast?

That's a good suggestion... will try on the school run - also update from last night...

Significant vibrations. Thought it was a wheel out of balance at first - travelling at 50mph. Slowed down to 40, but it came on stronger. I limped to the nearest place I could stop thinking it could be a loose wheel. Checked. Nothing. Back in the car the vibrations stopped. Carried on with the last couple of miles of my journey with no issues. Half way home same problem occurred after a couple of miles on a dual carriage way. Feels like something very heavy that is loose. The vibrations seem to have the same sort of characteristics as the clicking in relation to speed/engine revs - I'm wondering now whether something has let go - bracket/bushing

the vibrations continue with it in/out gear. To me this is feeling like a driveshaft issue - perhaps bearing has failed - it's going to have to go in - it's no-longer useable

I've no experience with the AWD, Phil, but if it were mine I'd be getting it on a lift asap for inspection. There was a chap not so long ago with a P2 V70 AWD and similar strange vibrations which I believe turned out to be a propshaft carrier/bearing. I'll try and find the thread.

Yep - that's where my head is at - propshaft bearing. I've called Hallmark in Stockport (independent Volvo specialist) - they are about 10 miles from me, I've used them for years - they are taking it in today.

Got my recovery company to pick it up later today - not taking any chances - will update the thread when i know more
