Default 1999 C70 heater fan problems

My C70 has developed a strange problem.
When it starts up, and I slide the fan speed switch to the right, from off to on,the fan blows for about 2-3 seconds, then stops. The Air con on and recirc air buttons flash their led's many times, then go off.
Sliding the switch to off then on again, nothing happens, fan does not go on. Switching off the ignition and trying again, and the whole cycle repeats.

I've tried starting it with aircn switched to on, fan speed to full even having the air blowing at the screen, or other positions. None of it makes any difference.

I have checked the plugs at the back of the heater control, they are in fine.

Any ideas what it could be, or how to fix it?

I had exactly this problem (1999 V70 2.5 10V) and , after fiddling with just about everything I could think of, it was somewhere on this website that suggested gently blowing out the dust from the cabin temperature sensor. I had no idea it existed! This is located behind a small grill located next to the heated rear window switch on the dash. Naturally on a car that is used for everything, this can get a bit mucky with airborne fluff. It really seemed too simple! Just blowing manually into the grill by mouth fixed the problem immediately. Unbelievably simple! So I joined today. Try it.

Thanks for the advice, but in my case, It didn't cure the problem.

The sensor was really dusty. I gently blew it all out. Still sufffering the same issue i'm afraid, no change at all.

I'm willing to try anything else you think may help.

Had this a couple of weeks ago.
Tried cleaning sensor from the front but no joy, mixture of blowing and vacuuming.
Took it out and was amazed by the amount of crud in there.
Easy enough to do;
Remove the radio, (Make sure you've got the code!) put your hand up inside the aperture and ease the ECC unit forwards, trust me it will come out, (eventually!)
Then you can get your hand in to release the two clips, push both together and withdraw the sensor, give it a good blow to make sure the fan is running free.
Be careful with the probe, it is only thin gauge wire.
As they say reffitting is the reversal of the removal.

Cheers,
Tel.

I took the sensor out, it was a bit dusty buy not excessively so. plugged it back in, made no difference.

I then disconnected it and ran the heater fan, exactly the same problem, no different.

All the connector blocks are in ok. I really have no idea what to do next.
