D24 woes...
So I now am also after a D24 head. After removing the injectors for reconditioning, the chap who did the job commented on how sooted up they were internally.
I removed the flame arrestors to be greeted with 4 very burnt seats, indicating these injectors had weeped and corroded the aluminium away. Thinking it would be fine, all the injectors went back in. No, not fine. I have a lot of blowby from the injector threads. This head is stuffed. |

I really have had a cant be arsed weekend with this. I haven't pulled the injector out but this is exactly what the problem is.
Does that look like something your shop could fix? |

Its difficult to see on the picture, has the seat been completely burned away around the 7 o clock position ? If so the only way to get around it would be to put a steel insert in there. Machine most of the original area away . Just enough for the insert to sit against and press one in
.. anything can be fixed, if its a case of removing some of the original seat until a clear band is found again. It shouldn't be a huge pain to the wallet. If inserts need to be made it could be a different story. |

The part that's burnt away is part of the sealing surface, between the flame trap/washer, the injector, and the head.
The washer forms a seal on the head, but as I found out, with that aluminium etched/corroded away, It would mean a repair to the head if its possible. But, there's not a lot left of that surface. Will get some pics some point today. I've pretty much lost interest in this car after finding this. Thanks again Willyvg |

they all seem to be salvageable, none appear to have notches burned out of the, and so may be able to be tickled up to provide a shiny new seat. if you are any where near clay cross in Derbyshire, i would give cotterells a call, they are best qualified to provide accurate advice
